The son of a builder of the Panamá Canal, Vivian M. Dottin raised his daughter Gail on vivid stories of black Canal Zone life. With humility and honor she’s sculpting his words into an oral history. It’ll be dedicated to her father whose absence is pain at her core every second.

    Love this list – so REAL, raw, true and relatable. Never would have thought about a checked list being literary – but very appropriately so.
